A-1 & C-1 Closing the Gap: Regional and Ethnic Disparities in Adult Immunization Rates

Learning Objectives:

This session focused on exploring regional and ethnic disparities in adult immunization rates. Presentations demonstrated ethnic and regional disparities in immunization rates; explored potential reasons underlying disparities; and highlighted effective strategies, interventions, and resources. Community and provider-based strategies used to reach urban and rural ethnic communities (African American, Hispanic, and Asian American) were highlighted.

By the end of the session, participants were able to:

  • Describe potential reasons for regional and ethnic variations in adult immunization rates
  • Discuss one or more effective strategies for reducing disparities in adult immunization rates
  • Identify two or more resources they can use to support efforts to reduce regional and ethnic disparities in adult immunization rates

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify vaccinations that are recommended and/or required for health care workers in CA
  • Apply effective strategies to improve vaccination of health care workers
  • Understand expectations regarding JCAHO expectations and SB 739

A-3 & C-3 Pandemic Influenza Planning: An Overiew and Update on National, California and Private Sector Preparedness Efforts

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the session, participants were able to:

  • Understand what pandemic influenza is and the planning efforts to date
  • Understand the key areas of focus at the national, state, county and health care system level
  • Identify what remains to be done in order for our health system to optimize its readiness for such a disaster

  • Identify barriers to reaching adolescent and young adult populations
  • Brainstorm potential strategies to reach targeted populations
